grassVert Although we’re in the middle of a drought, we’ve got abundance here. Looked at carefully a stem of grass can remind of nature’s resilience—all those seeds just hanging there. Nature seems fond of sending challenges—a seven year drought followed by massive floods. We should be used to it by now. But somehow we keep expecting the middle way, as if the profligacy we’re used to is the new normal. It’s not. So we get used to wild swings and be grateful when it matches what we prefer—gratitude for small mercies, a trait my grandmother cherished.
