To the lady in Walmart

To the lady in Walmart.

Thanks for your terrific rendering of the kid’s amazement at being punished for what was becoming a “bad” word. Another history lesson on how to keep up with Political Correctness, a difficult task in a multi-ethnic society. I grew up in England of the Forties. Imagine my arrival in New York, and being taken to the edge of Harlem for my first glimpse of black society!!! Stunningly unexpected. Same as you, fascinated surprise issued from my lips. Fortunately no-one heard except my mother’s old governess, who reproved me on the spot. (I was too old for public smacking).
